Jonathan Otto founded the First Highwaymen Corporation to preserve the art and share the story of the Highwaymen. He is an entrepreneur who moved to Palm Beach County, Florida in 2001 and began collecting art by A.E. Backus and the Highwaymen. His passion for the art is matched only by the inspiring story of the Highwaymen artists, which symbolized to him the perseverance of the American spirit. In order to share the art and story of the Highwaymen, Otto sought out Catherine M. Enns, a native of Fort Pierce, Florida, to write a book that would document the multi-dimensional story of these artists including the role of the preeminent landscape artist, A. E. Backus. The Journey of the Highwaymen, published by Abrams, is the culmination of Otto's vision to reveal both the art and story to a much wider audience.

As an art collector, Otto is continuously interested in expanding his collection. Please contact us should you have any interest in selling any paintings by A.E. Backus, the Highwaymen, or other prominent Florida landscape artists including Hermann Hertzog, Martin Johnson Heade and Winslow Homer.
